SMART SideKick Roller is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hose needs improvement I love the idea and the product but there is an issue with the hose. Not sure if it’s because the hose is coiled up for shipping or flaw in design. Couple of inches away from the pump/housing hose kinks and after few uses starts to leak. I’m on my 6th unit so far. If there was a sleeve in this area to protect it I would rate it 5 stars.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Roller Button Sticks Since the day I bought this, the roller button has been difficult. It doesn't always work when you push it and now that I am going to use it for a second time, the button doesn't want to do anything. I have never got paint on it, but regardless, a poor design if it can't tolerate a paint environment.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from will cover wall quickly. Needs better flow control no flow control ;since paint gets over everything my power button got stuck and had to unplug to stop after first use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Won't paint without it This is the second Wagner power roller system I have used. I literally will not paint without it unless it is a very small job. I just finished painting the stucco on two walls of my house, including a 15' peak. Being able to load the roller with a press of a button is great when you are up in the air. It is also much safer. I am a 66 year old woman so I take more breaks than a stronger person might but this really speeds up the job. I don't like the cleanup, but I knew that when I bought this. It is worth it to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Takes practice, but awesome tool I bought the Sidekick to paint a stairwell. I didn't want to have to keep going up and down a ladder to dip the roller in a pan of paint. The Sidekick worked like a charm. You have to be careful how much paint you send to the roller, and not leave the pump on too long. About to paint a 13x20' den and am looking forward to using the Sidekick.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Time saver, needs modification Pumping paint through the roller head is not only faster, but reduces drips since most of these occur between the bucket and the wall or ceiling. The price point of this machine makes the purchase justifiable even for non-professionals, depending on the scope of the project. The pump mechanism and delivery tube are well designed and easy to clean which is a major factor in any machine designed to move liquid coatings. The power button is the weak part of this machine, as it seems to work via vacuum pressure or something other than electrical current. In any case, it's flimsy and also located right on the neck of the roller, which means it's a real pain if you have a pole attached (and you want the pole). The power button is in the wrong spot! Fortunately, this is an easy fix. The button needs to be bypassed. Before you use the machine open up the cover and move the red wire directly to the ON/OFF switch, bypassing the button on the roller handle. Not hard because it's just a clip. You will then need to supply your own switch which is connected to an outlet (receptacle). Plug the machine into the outlet and switch the machine to "ON". Then use the switch you supplied to turn the outlet on and off whenever you want more paint. The switch can then be mounted (taped) on the extension pole in a convenient location so you can turn the pump on and off without removing the roller from the wall as you go. I found that a cheap inline rocker switch for lamps worked perfectly. Basically a power cord with a remote switch, useful for other machinery as well. Hopefully the manufacturer will read this review and change the wiring scheme as it's not complicated or expensive. My other complaint is the rollers need to be available in a variety of nap thicknesses. This would be awesome for floor varnishers if it came in 1/4" nap.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A great timesaver ... when it works I had to return two machines and get a third to finish a job. I had one of the Power Rollers that worked for over 10 years and was a huge fan. However, I am disappointed in the quality and reliability of the new Sidekick. The button on the handle stuck the first time I pressed it on the first machine I bought, which caused the paint to flow continuously unless you turned the machine off .... it caused a huge mess. I returned it for a second machine, and the motor stopped pumping paint out of the can on the third day. (This was not a cleaning issue. I clean the machines thoroughly, as directed .... my other one lasted 10 years!). I had to do a second return to get a third machine to finish the job. It's a great time saver ...when it works. Disappointed and can't recommend the new generation Sidekick.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for big jobs I had one of the original power painter from Wagner. This new design has its pluses and minuses over the old. The old painter had a two foot extension for the roller. It really made controlling very easy. Additionally, the old design carried the can of paint and had a regulator to adjust the flow of paint. The adjustment wouldn't be that big of deal if the control to the pump was at your lower hand. IF you have a stick on this you can't reach the button. I came here looking for the extension piece, but it looks like they don't offer it. I wish I kept my old extension. The unit finally gave out after 15 or more years of use. I'm going to tackle a big project with the new version and hope it works. The walls should be a problem. My attempt with the ceiling wasn't very good. Had to go to the old pan method. Trouble with not being able to reach the button when spreading the paint and it dripped all over. The old one worked great on the ceiling. Bring back the extension!

Can i use it to stain deck?

Asked by: wensi
Yes you can use the the Smart SideKick to stain your deck. It comes with a 3/8" nap roller cover, but a 3/4" nap might do better on an older deck with larger gaps. Call to order parts at 1-800-328-8251.

I purchased the Wagner Sidekick. How do I control the paint flow if I add and extension pole? Is there a remote for and extension pole? Thank you.

Asked by: Anonymous
Buy a remote controlled wall outlet, plug it into the wall. Plug the side kick into the remote outlet, I tapped the remote control to my extension pole. Turn the paint feed button to on (on the sidekick roller handle), use the remote control for the wall outlet to turn the pump on/off as needed.
